Columbiaville Passes Resolution Against Smart Meters

Another Michigan municipality passes a resolution against smart meters. Columbiaville supports the right of all DTE customers to have the choice to have an analog meter on their home. On April 11, 2016 the city passed a resolution (pages 4 and 5 on this link) urging the state legislature to pass House Bill 4916, the Analog Meter Choice Bill. The resolution came about as a result of the work of Brock Millard, a local resident who has been educating city officials throughout Lapeer County about the health and privacy dangers of smart meters. David Willis, a Columbiaville resident, told the city council at its March 7 meeting that his aunt in Flint Township is experiencing health problems from the smart meters.

Columbiaville’s village clerk, Denise Baker, took a stand against DTE installing a smart meter on the Village Office, and also opposed the installation of a radiofrequency-emitting broadband pole on the corner of First and Pine Streets. Ms. Baker is a wise woman.

Are you a Michigan resident? Then it is very important that you talk with your own state legislators regading the Analog Meter Choice Bill. It is also crucial that you educate friends and neighbors via our flyers and our website. Nothing is won by people sitting silently by! Vote with your voice! Contact your state legislators today.

  5. It isn't harmful and the issue in flint was bad water not the meter lead poisoning from flint was from the pipes the meter is better it gives a accurate reading of ur power consumption guess what I'm not sick I stand by the meter and nothing bad has happened to me it's been in since January if something like that isn't good for a person you am I still healthy I think that they are trying to hide something from ppl or they are being told lies

    1. Not everyone is harmed immediately by the meters. However, these radiofrequencies cause many harmful biological effects, some of which, like cancer, take years to develop into health problems. As an analogy-- you could smoke cigarettes all day long for years, with no apparent effects. Yet, the chances are quite high that down the road you will develop lung cancer or emphysema.

  6. What's funny is I'm now living in my SECOND home that has one and not once was I given a choice. They just let themselves in through my gate, came into my backyard and switched it out without my consent or knowledge. This should be illegal and we should have some choice in the matter. How do we stop this?

    2. Why would it be illegal for a power company to access and change a meter it owns?.. you dont own that meter.

      Delete
    3. It is not illegal for the power company to do so. We have never said it is. What is wrong is that they are harming people to fill their own coffers. DTE and Consumers have heard from hundreds of people who are being made sick by the meters. They don't care. It is cheaper fo them to leave an analog meter than to change it out to their so-called opt-out meter, yet they insist on taking all analogs off.

  7. DTE started installing these in my area this year and our DSL lines (neighbors too) have had unidentified "noise" on the lines that causes a severe loss of internet speed. Could these smart meters be the cause? I have been pushing AT&T about our loss of DSL speed since January 14th.

    1. I do not know. Keep bugging AT&T and let us know what you find out. The meters can interfere with Wi-Fi, and Comcast has considered suing the DTE because of this. (Word to the wise: get rid of your wi-fi--quite dangerous to health, too). Hope you will visit our website, Smart Meter Education Network, to learn more.

    2. Wi-fi, cell phones, smart meters, smart phones, they are all radio frequencies. One is no worse than the other. I don't see people not holding their cell phones to their heads. Radio frequencies are all around us. DTE allows you to opt out anywhere in Michigan, your just going to have to pay for it, and they don't need permission to come in your backyard to change a meter, they own. They have been coming into your yards for years to read the old meters and nobody complained about that.

    3. Hello, Anonymous. Please see my responses to other commenters. Please read the page on our website about dirty electricity. One is worse than the other, as you will see if you read our page What Are Smart Meters. Moreover, not everyone uses a cell phone--I can't because it makes me very ill. The opt-out meter generates dirty electricity. Why not allow people to keep their analog, regardless, if they want to? It is cheaper for DTE and the customers.

  8. Here is my story 100.00 to remove it and 9.00 extra a month because I won't have it...

  9. Hi, Laura. Yep, that is what they do. But be aware--the "opt-out" meter is still a smart meter, and it generates dirty electricity, which is as harmful to your health as the radiofrequency radiation. If you take a look at our website, Smart Meter Education Network, and read the page on "Dirty Electricity," and also the page on "opt-Out Facts," you will learn all about it. Hope you join the fight! We can get this bill passed!

  10. WiFi and cell phones put out more RF than the smart meters. Not to mention Microwaves... I work in RF testing.. As for the DSL noise. You'll need thicker shielded cable to stop that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hmm. So we have electrical engineers and RF engineers who say just the opposite. I suggest you look at 1. the study by Daniel Hirsch in his reply to the CCST report, in which he says that when you look at power density, smart meters are 100-160 times higher. 2. Look at our What Are Smart Meters page and you will see the graphs from the Electric Power Research Institute (industry-funded), showing how smart meters emit RF magnitudes more than cell tower, etc.

  11. How many of you used your cell phone to read this? They say this too is dangerous to our health over time! Just like the cigarettes that you smoke, the alcohol that you drink and the toxic foods that most people put into their bodies. Just another reason to get everyone hyped up! Just saying.....there will always something to point finger at and get people worked up over:(

    1. That is a good question, and I hope not many do. All of these technologies are detrimental to health, and no one should be using them. However, this is not an excuse to get everyone hyped up. Some of us are made very ill immediately by the meters: insomnia, tinnitus, heart palpitations, headaches, increases in blood sugar and blood pressure levels, and much more. Suggest you read the info on our website, Smart Meter Education Network, and also look at smartmeterhealth.blogspot.com.

I am curious whether you are saying cigarettes are not harmful?

Smart meters are these devices on steroids. Their power density is 100-160 times that of a cell phone, and the amount of radiation they put into the enviroment is 1000s of times greater than that emitted by cell towers, etc.

    2. I have shields on my cell phone and I pads. I am concerned about emf and smart meters. My doctor has suggested not to get a smart meter and to protect myself from EMF. Read the smart meter website for good info.

  12. So you don't want a smartmeter that emits radiofrequency, but you will carry around a smartphone in your pocket and up to your ear that emits radiofrequency. As well as wifi and so many other technologies.

    1. CJ, you make a big assumption here. I, Linda Kurtz, head of the Smart Meter Education Network, do not use a cell phone of any kind, let alone a smartphone, and I do not use wifi or any other technology that emits radiofrequency. All of these technologies are detrimental to health, and no one should be using them. Smart meters are these devices on steroids. Their power density is 100-160 times that of a cell phone, and the amount of radiation they put into the enviroment is 1000s of times greater than that emitted by cell towers, etc. Take a look at our web page Smart Meters / What Are Smart Meters on the Smart Meter Education Network website.

    2. Smart Meter.., I wasn't knocking what you are saying. I should have put it in the form of a question. Sorry it came off wrong. Something you said in another post just triggered a memory... My daughter-in-law has a friend with Lyme disease and the radiofrequency triggers a number of problems for her. She didn't have those problems until she got Lyme disease. Just a thought or a lead perhaps. I don't like all the radiofrequencies floating around out there either.

    3. Ah, I understand. We see a post, we have a thought, and we don't realize it is not following the other person's train of thought. Yes, people with Lyme's do have a lot of problems with the RFs.

BTW, curious how you came to this page. We are getting a ton of comments, but don't know how people came to the page.

Also, I encourage you to go to your website and to also sign up there for our newsletter.

      Thank you for your civility!

  13. I opted out of the Wi-Fi meter they tell me that they shut the Wi-Fi off and that it is just a digital meter a meter reader still comes out to the house to read it, but I am still convinced that the wifi is on so I am going to pull the meter and we will see what happens bet ya DTE shows up to my house.

  14. These are the same waves that cell phones emit, but smart meters broadcast 24/7 at a power density 100 to 160 times that of a cell phone. See the report by Daniel Hirsch, Professor of Nuclear Policy at the University of California at Santa Cruz.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Also, because these meters broadcast 24/7 and there are at least two on nearly every home (electric, gas, and possibly water), the total amount of emissions is magnitudes greater than that emitted by all cell towers and wifi combined. If you take a look at this page, it will give you a ton of useful information:

  18. Linda Kurtz, Thank you for all the hard work that was put into this website. I came across it by typing smart meters into google search. I received the letter from dte jan. 13, 2016 saying they going to be installing the advanced metering in my area. I live on the Tuscola and lapeer co border on the Tuscola side. They have not come to my house yet. A couple of weeks ago I put a chain and padlock around my meter box. I have also talked to Brock Millard and went to the Lapeer township meeting about the smart meters 4-28-16. After reading the info on your page and other sites and videos I have come to the conclusion that smart meters are dangerous, unhealthy, costly bills and don't help the consumer in any way period!
